'Beating the Bounds' book for Great Wigborough from Essex Record Office, Reference C32 AMS 69 [Note 1]. There are various dates in the book and it probably refers to beating the bounds in 1776.
Images by Carol Wyatt, transcription by John Pullen-Appleby.
The book records walking the parish boundary, and marking the progress on a map, but the map used at the time does not seem to have survived.
Until 1888 there were three detached parts to the Parish of Great Wigborough in addition to the main area. They can be seen on the map on OS1881_WIG_001

2. Doole - probably an archaic form of 'dole' - one meaning is it is a portion of a field granted through charity for the use of the poor.
