"Local Bricks" - brickmaking at West Mersea Brickwords
Abstract
A photograph album showing the brick making process at West Mersea Brickwords,
followed by some photographs showing brick making and bricklaying at school.
The album is thought to date from 1951 and was made up by Mr Gordon Ambridge who taught at West Mersea School.
The Brickworks was active by the end of the 19th Century, and closed about the time of this album, so the photographs show the brickworks in a very late run-down state.
Album donated to Mersea Museum by Mr Graham Ambridge, son of Gordon Ambridge, on behalf of Mrs Peggy Ambridge, widow of Gordon. Accession No. 2009-05-008.
It is thought that the photographs were taken by Richard Oppezzo. [RG]
