Son of Charles John Ewart and Winifred Bessie Heard of 2 Council Houses, Barfield Road.

On the 24 May 1944, Pilot Officer Heard was the Navigator on Halifax LW118 of 158 Sqn, which took off at 11:02pm from Lissett to bomb the East and West Marshalling Yard at Aachen. Nothing was heard of the aircraft after it left the base and all that is recorded is that Halifax LW118 crashed in the Oosterschelde off Wissenkerke (Zeeland), Holland killing all 7 airmen on board:
