Title | St Johns Green School visit to Mersea |
Abstract | Pictures from a visit to West Mersea by the Literacy Support Centre, St John's Green School, Colchester.
The group stopped at the Strood, visited Mersea Museum and the Church. They had a picnic on the beach and found St Peter's Well before visiting the Lifeboat Station.
On return, the children all wrote letters describing their visit - letters were printed on the BBC Computer.
Teacher Mrs Steadman and Pat Kirby were with the group - pictures by Pat Kirby who also taught at the school.
There are also some photographs from a visit by another group to the Lifeboat Station. |

Tony Purnell talking to a group outside the shed
For the first two years of its life, the Lifeboat was kept in the open in Clarke & Carter's yard. Then (about 1965) Paddy Hare offered the RNLI the use of a shed (formerly used as a store by the Army Sailing Association) as a boathouse, and this was the Lifeboat Station until 1992.
