Sailing barge DUCHESS in the lock at Heybridge Basin. The barge was owned by Clem Parker of Bradwell, and this must have been one of the summer family cruises that are described in Last Stronghold of Sail, page 98.

The picture was sent by Sue Slee - her grandfather Thomas William Shearman is is sitting on a beer crate right foreground, and from this Sue dates the picture 1901 to 1914.
