27 July 1927 The tug SUN IX bound from Blackwater to London under Captain Mee with a crew of nine men ran aground on the South Buxey Sands. Clacton Lifeboat was launched but the skipper of the tug refused to be rescued - and the tug refloated at the next high tide. [Dundee Evening Telegraph] |
