Haven of Rest by Douglas Gurton reports that GORDON CASTLE arrived on Derby Day - newspaper articles of the time put this as 31 May 1922.
Douglas describes "a small black steamer with 'woodbine' funnel."

Chelmsford Chronicle 11 Jan 1924 Body of James Wilson, 57, watchman on GORDON CASTLE was washed up on beach at West Mersea. With Ernest Rogers, also watchman on GORDON CASTLE, he had purchased a bottle of whiskey and gone down the railway line to Tollesbury Pier Station.

13 Sept 1924 beached alongside Ward's Jetty at Grays
