AbstractJohn Barton was born 1931, son of Hattie née Green and Clifford Barton. He had a twin sister Mary and and elder sister Mollie (Scrivener).

John went to Miss Francis's school on Mersea, then a Convent School in Colchester, but travelling into Colchester was dangerous in the early years of the War, so he went to a private school on Mersea [ at the Nothe ]. 1941 he went to Colchester Royal Grammar School. Leaving school, John went into the Army to become a radiographer.

John emigrated to New Zealand c1959, living in New Plymouth.

In July 2015, John's daughter Sophie recorded an interview with John talking about his life. Listen to the audio:

John died 7 August 2016 in New Plymouth.
