Abstract
In this Pre-Reformation will written in 1509, John Davy the Elder, commends his soul to God, St Mary and all the company of heaven, requesting he be buried in Peldon churchyard. He bequeaths money to the high altars of Peldon, Layer de La Haye and Abberton. He leaves his two sons, John and Richard, a three-year-old cow and ten two-year-old sheep each, to be delivered to them at the age of seventeen or, if their mother remarries, before her marriage. Davy leaves each of his two sons a 3 gallon brass pot to be delivered to them upon marriage.
Davy appoints his wife, Christian, his executrix and leaves her all his unbequeathed possesions asking that she settles his debts. Gregory Senew is appointed supervisor of the will and it is witnessed by Robert Webbe of Wigborough, Richard Blampayn, John Blande & Richard Vyncent among others.
