Abstract
Christopher Stkes bequeaths his soul to Almighty God and desires his body to be buried where God pleases. He makes the following bequests:

To Robert Stokes (brother): his best hat, his best pair of breeches, and his leather coat.

Christopher desires that his wife, Susan (who is appointed executrix of ther will) sells his little red cow and disburses the proceeds as follows:

20 shillings to Samuel Cooke (godson of Christopoher); 2 shillings and 4 pence to each of Ann Smith, Margaret James, Margaret Thanes and Marie Mott (godchildren); the residue to be given to the poor of the parish of West Mersea, to those most in need of it.

The residue of the estate is bequeathed to Susan, wife of Christopher.

1   In the name of god amen the xiiiten daie of Januarie in the fift yeare
2   of the Reigne of o[ur] soveraine Lorde James by the grace of god
3   now Kinge et[c] and in the yeare of our Lorde god 1607 I Christofer
4   Stokes of westmersea in the Countie of Essex husbanman
5   beinge sicke in bodie but p[er]fect of Remembrance doe make
6   this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge
7   first I bequeath my sowle unto the hands of almightie god
8   and my bodie to be buried where it shall please god to apoint
9   & for my worldly goods I despose in forme followinge Item
10   I give unto Robert Stokes my brother my best hatt my
11   best payer of britches and my Lether Coate: It[em] I will that
12   my little Redd Cowe shalbe sould \by/ my executrice betwene this
13   and Easter next and the monie thereof Cominge to be bestowed
14   in manner followinge first I will that Samuell Cooke my
15   godsone shall / have xx s[hillings] of the monie And I will that Ann
16   Smith Margret James Margret Thanes and Marie mott my
17   godchildren shall have everie one of them ii s[hillings] iiij d [pence] a pece
18   and the Rest of the monie Cominge of the saide Cowe I
19   give Unto the poore of the p[ar]ishe of Westmersea to be
20   destributed where most nede is at the descretion of the
21   p[ar]ishoners and my exectutrice It[em] all the Rest of my goods
