Map of Artesian Wells in West Mersea and Little Wigborough.
No. 1 Copt Hall
No. 2 Gray Esq. (located near Creek Hall).
No. 3 Victory Hotel (but marked on map near Stone House).
The back of the map is marked LeGrand, Sutcliff and Gell Ltd, Artesian Well Engineers, London.
Based on 1898 OS Map, but the date of the Artesian Wells is not indicated. If Gray relates to the farmers, then they did not come to the area till early 1940s.

The map shows the old Little Wigborough School in the field opposite the track to the wood on Copt Hall Lane. It was demolished - date unknown. Both Sheila Gray and Bernie Ratcliffe can remember ploughing up bricks etc. in this area. Bernie tells us that when his brother was ploughing, he disturbed the concrete slab that had been placed over the well, and a tractor wheel went down into the hole.
