Tollesbury Yard launches biggest trawler - quietly.
With a gentle sliding motion the largest trawler to be built at the Tollesbury boatyard of Frost and Drake Ltd slid daintily into the water without so much as a mild splash, on Wednesday.

The 40ft MARGARET ANNE CK40 - named after the wives of the owners, Brightlingsea fishermen Mr T. Sargent and Mr D. Jacobs - was launched informally, but despite any lack of ceremony, she was dressed overall for the occasion.

The motor trawler, which will be used for sprat fishing as far as Boston in Lincolnshire, trawling for soles and skate in Essex coastal waters and herring catching on the Eagle sand in the Blackwater estuary, is believed to be the first fishing boat built in Tollesbury for Brightlingsea fishermen since 1908.

His Last
Constructed of iroko on oak and copper fastened, the vessel was the last to be designed for thefirm by the late Mr Albert Drake, a former teacher at the North-East Essex Technical College, Colchester. His brother, Mr Thomas Frost is a partner with Mr Desmond Frost who represents the fourth successive generation of his family in the boatbuilding trade.

The MARGARET ANNE will be powered by a six-cylinder marine diesel and will be equipped with fish-finders and a radio telephone. She is fitted with a Tollesbury-made one-ton winch.
