Home Rule for Mersea. Slogan on an old wartime pontoon at the back of Ray Island. During the war, several of these were kept at the Strood in case of emergency. After the war, Ernie Richardson was living in a shed built on top of one at the time of the 1953 flood. He was rescued, well on his way to Brightlingsea.
