Elaine Barker writes:
"George Henry Wombwell (1862 -1933), the youngest son of Fred Wombwell was to make his mark on the village of Tollesbury despite such a bad start in life, born with the Menagerie 'on the road', losing his parents young. He bought Tollesbury Hall and lived there until his death. He also bought The King's Head in 1901 and the Red Lion in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, set up brickworks, farmed, built 'Woodup' Pool, an outdoor salt-water swimming pool, and played an active part in bringing the railway to Tollesbury."
