The death of a young soldier, pte. Ronald Arthur Chatters (21), occurred at Colchester on Friday, February 9. Chattes, whose home address was Sapphire Villa, st. Peter's Road, West Mersea, had previously reported sick with, it was thought, a chill.

The facts were reported to the Colchester Borough Deputy Coroner (Mr O. Thomspon Smith), who deemed an inquest unecesssary.
