As a result of his connection with West Mersea, a good deal of land - merely agricultural land - had been sold at satisfactory prices. In 1907 things were prosperous and he paid off some of his old liabilities.

Ref West Mersea Brick Field, debtor said he put £150 into it last year, but Mr Bean distrained on it and locked the gate. He could find a customer for the brickfield.
