We are all holding flagons of Coates cider except Mum who appears to have a bottle of wine. The small 'buckets' we are holding were actually flower-pot holders which had chains attached, these had been adapted to hang round the barrels that held 'on-tap' cherry brandy, apricot brandy, sweet sherry and dry sherry. These were all sold by the bottle (you had to bring your own wine bottle and if it was too big you were charged pro-rata on a guess basis, ah those were the days). The 'Holders' were to catch the drips when the tap was turned off so the floor did not get sticky. I can still remember the price of the apricot brandy which was 7/6d a bottle. That would be 35 and one half pence in new money! It has reminded me that Percy always called mum 'Mrs Dixon' and Dilys always called her 'Mother' !
There is also a picture somewhere of me decanting honey. We bought it in 60lb tins and had to pour it out into a jug and then into clean 1lb jars with screw lids for re-sale. It was so much cheaper and very popular [Carol Dixon].
