Tanker CHARTSMAN taken by Brightlingsea photographer Alf Jefferies. Probably in the Colne off Brightlingsea, loaded and inward bound for Colchester where she was a regular caller.

Built 1944 as tanker EMPIRE BOXER 1944 Rowhedge Ironworks Yard no. 629. Official No. 169730, 340 tons gross.
1946 sold to C. Rowbotham, renamed CHARTSMAN
1967 converted to suction dredger for tin dredging in St Ives Bay. Renamed BAYMEAD 1974 Scrapped, Northam, Southampton.

Tankers laid up in River Blackwater. POLAR MAID on the right, arrived with a cargo of whale oil 26 May 1954 and stayed waiting for the value of the cargo to improve. She left 20 April 1955

Each year, a selection of the images with an accompanying audiocommentary form an audio-visual display that is run when the Museum is open.
