|Title||Memory Lane - the Home Guard|
I recently went to the cinema in Colchester, my first visit to the Odeon since it moved from Crouch Street. I went to see the film 'Dad's Army' because I always think the TV series is the funniest programme ever to come on television. Its a good film, but there will never be another Arthur Lowe.
Choosing the Home Guard for a comedy series was always going to be a dead cert for those of us who can remember the real thing.
This month's picture shows some of the men from Mersea posing on the steps of the British Legion at an unknown date. They are from left to right
Back row Nathan 'Si' Smith, Norman Everett, Cliff Robins, Albert Lee, Fred 'Dubbin' Cudmore, Alf Chapman.
2nd row Jim Groom, Ed Wyatt, 'Din' Hoy, Jack Marsh, Bill Weeks, 6. Dennis 'Bubbly' Cook, Reg Garrard.
3rd row not known, Alfred 'Did' Lee, Ben Clark, John French (Bank Manager), Fred Pullen, Percy Bacon, Hector Farthing.
4th row Arthur Benns, Eddie Cornelius, Oswald French (Shoe Shop), Alf Sherwood, Les Green (my Dad), Herbert Grigg, Ernie Woolf.
