Horse drawn carriage at the Cross on East Road, turning into Dawes Lane. Berwick House in the distance looks as if it is still under construction. The carriage is similar to the one outside the old Victory in MMC_P755_013 . The name on the side of the carriage could be 'Lancaster'. This arrangment of 3 horses is sometimes known as a 'Unicorn Hitch'.
Edith Smith's diary records that A. Martin went to live in Berwick House September 1904. The stone on the front of Berwick House appeared in 2015 when cladding was removed from the house, and this is inscribed 1904, dating the photograph at around 1904.
The house has been renamed Bewick House.
Date: c1904
