The dearly loved and affectionate son of Rose and Arthur John Whiting, who was killed in action 23 June 1917, aged 21 years.

Arthur T.J. Whiting was born West Mersea, 1896. The 1901 census shows the family living at George Street, Hadleigh, Suffolk. The 1911 census shows them at 18 New Park Street Colchester, and Arthur is described as an Errand Boy. His father Arthur John Whiting was born West Mersea 1869, and his mother Rose née Cook born West Mersea 1872. They married 31 January 1891 in West Mersea Parish Church
