Winning Through! The Strood, a road leaving over a creek of the River Blackwater from the mainland to Mersea Island is almost impassable at high tide. An adventurer from the island crossing to the mainland.

The car is a Delage MH2817 built 1924 and owned for many years by Charles Pavey on Mersea. Brian South writes "You cannot see my Grandfather, Charles Pavey but through the oval back window is my grandmother's (Ida Pavey) cloche hat. Knowing their habits and the way high tides are often at mid day I reckon they were off to shop in Colchester on a Friday afternoon.
The car was eventually sold, but eventually Brian South bought back the car and is currently restoring it.
