Betty Winch. She was the prime mover in the formation of the ladies section of Mersea Island Bowling Club in 1951, and became president of the Essex County Women's Bowling Association in 1974.

Betty Winch wrote in her story "In 1949 I started playing bowls. I was a founder member of the Mersea Island Ladies Bowling Club; now in 2002 I am the only founder member left. I have now been a member for 53 years and played for 47 of those 53 years."
