 East Mersea Ferryman - Mr Horatio Mole of East Mersea who will shortly complete half a century of service as ferryman at East Mersea. He crosses at all times and in all weathers when required, and has fortunately been free from any accident. At times the water has been within an inch of the top of his boat but he has always pulled through.

Another photograph says that in 1933 Horatio Mole had been running the ferry service for 52 years, dating this article around 1931.
